About O'Connor Geomechanics

Independent geomechanics consulting for underground mining — built on rigorous analysis, practical experience, and a commitment to defensible outcomes.

The Firm

O'Connor Geomechanics was founded to provide underground mining operations with access to senior-level geomechanics expertise — without the overhead of a large consulting firm. We work directly with mine operators, project teams, and technical leads to deliver practical, defensible solutions to complex ground control problems.

Our work spans the full project lifecycle, from feasibility-stage numerical modelling through to active operational support. Every engagement is led by a principal engineer with deep hands-on experience in underground hard rock mining environments.

Christopher O'Connor

Principal Geomechanics Engineer

Christopher O'Connor is a geomechanics engineer with extensive experience in underground hard rock mining across Canada and internationally. His work focuses on numerical modelling, ground support design, and operational geotechnical support for producing mines.

Christopher has led geomechanics programs at some of Canada's deepest and most technically challenging underground operations, including high-stress environments where conventional empirical methods are insufficient. He specialises in FLAC3D continuum modelling and has a strong track record of translating complex analytical results into practical design recommendations.

He holds a Bachelors degree in Mining Engineering, and a Masters Degree in Mineral Resource Engineering and is a  registered professional engineer in Ontario. He is committed to rigorous, transparent analysis and clear communication with operations teams and management.

How We Work

Rigorous Analysis

Every recommendation is grounded in sound geomechanical principles and supported by defensible analysis — not rules of thumb.

Practical Outcomes

We understand that mines operate under real constraints. Our solutions are designed to be implementable, not just technically correct.

Direct Engagement

You work directly with the principal engineer on every project — no hand-offs to junior staff, no diluted expertise.
